- Jewel of the Master
- The square: the published emblem of virtue, of conduct that is true and just. The Worshipful Master is enjoined by the lecture to govern his Lodge by the square in all his dealings.
- Jewel of the Senior Warden
- The level: the published emblem of equality, of meeting upon one common ground. The Senior Warden, who governs the Lodge during labor and at refreshment, is reminded that all Masons stand on the level inside the door of the Lodge.
- Jewel of the Junior Warden
- The plumb: the published emblem of uprightness, of moral rectitude. The Junior Warden, who has charge of the Craft at refreshment, is reminded that recreation must not pull a Mason out of plumb.
- Movable and immovable jewels
- The published monitor distinguishes two classes. The movable jewels are the square, level, and plumb worn by the three principal officers, passed at installation from one man to the next. The immovable jewels are the rough ashlar, the perfect ashlar, and the trestle board, which belong to the Lodge itself.
- Worn at installation
- Every officer's jewel is presented to him at installation as a published, public act. The jewel is a sign of the office, not of the man; when the term ends, the jewel returns to the Lodge and is given to his successor.
- Other officer jewels
- Beyond the three principals, every Lodge officer wears a jewel proper to his station: the Treasurer's crossed keys, the Secretary's crossed pens, the Deacons' dove and rod, the Stewards' cornucopia, the Tyler's sword. The published list is fixed; the styling varies by jurisdiction.
